Advice and information
Dementia UK
Shares advice on living with dementia and offer on a range of topics to help you stay physically active, including:
- eating
- drinking
- how to manage anxiety and depression
Many people with dementia become confused and disoriented at times which leads to changes in behaviour such as:
- - also called delusions
- - the term used for changes in behaviour that happen in the evening
Dementia UK provides information and support to help you if you experience these changes.

Offers information and help to manage:
Neighbourhood Network Schemes (NNS)
Neighbourhood Network Schemes offer support for a range of problems.
There is Neighbourhood Network in each of Birmingham's 10 constituencies, and they often have hubs that you can visit for advice and support.
Falls
People with dementia have a greater risk of falling due to poor mobility and sensory perception.
Annual health checks
If you are living with dementia, your annual health checks are an important part of your care and wellbeing.
Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board (ICB) provides resources and support for people living with dementia and their carers.
Dementia Friends
Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer's Society initiative.
Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding in the community, so that people living with dementia can continue to live in the way they want.
Being a Dementia Friend means understanding the five important messages we think everyone should know about dementia:
- Dementia is not a natural part of ageing.
- There is more to the person than the dementia.
- Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain.
- Dementia is not just about losing your memory.
- It is possible to live well with dementia.
Alzheimer’s Society dementia advisers
Alzheimer’s Society dementia advisers provide one-to-one support for anyone living with dementia or who is worried about their memory.
Anyone can access support from dementia advisers regardless of a dementia diagnosis.
Support ranges from pre-diagnosis to end of life.
They also provide support for carers, family and friends.
The support includes:
- information
- emotional support
- referrals or signposting to other organisations
Advisers provide support by phone, email or face-to-face at a home.
