My Tomorrow

Create it. Shape it. Embrace it.

My Tomorrow is a West Midlands youth-led campaign to highlight often-unseen realities of young people’s lives.

The campaign highlights the opportunities and challenges, often unseen, in young people’s lives, sparking conversations between young people and communities to build understanding that leads to collaborative, positive action.

It has been designed by young people and will continue to be shaped by them, as more people and organisations join the movement.

The key aims are to:

  • empower young people to influence policies affecting their lives, ensuring their voices are heard and respected
  • support professionals in creating and managing opportunities for youth engagement
  • encourage communities to rethink perceptions and support opportunities for positive change

Spark conversations that lead to collective action, shaping a future where every young person thrives.

We have partnered with the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP), the council’s Community Safety Team and Birmingham Children’s Trust to engage with young people to shape our approach to reducing violence and embrace the contribution children and young people can offer.

VRP’s work supports:

  • communities and professionals to work together
  • interventions to prevent violence
  • the use of evidence to inform decisions
  • leaders to connect around a shared long-term ambition
  • production of guidance, advice and toolkits

Change Makers Programme

The Change Makers Programme is a youth-led training programme influenced by the My Tomorrow campaign where young people are making their voices heard.

If you are a young person in the West Midlands, feel passionate about change, and would like to actively lead others, then this programme is for you.

You can get involved by leading the movement, improving your community and sharing your ideas by signing up to the Youth Assembly at info@positiveyouthfoundation.org.

Be part of the movement

Everyone has a role to play in the movement. Whether you are a member of the public, decision-maker, or youth organisation, young people need you to shape and embrace opportunities, initiatives, and environments where young people can grow and flourish.

My Tomorrow Barbers Shop

The My Tomorrow Barbers Shop was set up at the Lighthouse Youth Centre during Black History Month by Birmingham Youth Service, Community Safety Team and the Birmingham Children’s Trust to provide a safe space for young men to talk about their mental health.

The dance studio was transformed into a pop-up barber shop offering free trims to young men who were encouraged to open up about their mental health and future aspirations, with the aim of sparking conversations within their local communities.

The new initiative focused on three main key areas:

  • mental health awareness
  • future aspirations
  • support needed to achieve goals

My Tomorrow All Girls Football Tournament

The My Tomorrow All Girls Football Tournament was held at the Tally Ho Centre in Edgbaston, the West Midlands Police training headquarters.

It was organised and supported by the following partners to remove the barriers that side-line girls in football:

  • Birmingham City Council
  • West Midlands Police
  • West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership
  • The Police and Crime Commissioner

The tournament aimed to promote the value of the grassroots game in the lives of women and girls, and inspire the next generation as part of the youth-led My Tomorrow campaign.

This video shows a compilation of action photos of girls playing football matches during the tournament:

Youth Service

Birmingham Youth Service offers a range of activities, projects, and programmes for young people aged 11 to 18 years old in our youth centres around the city.

Our centres are a safe space for young people to get involved in fun activities and workshops as well as seek help, information and advice on issues that affect them. They are staffed by youth workers who are trusted adults. Young people can come and be themselves, meet new people, socialise with friends, feel safe and enjoy a range of opportunities to get involved in.

Contact your local youth centre for information about activities and opening times.
